Simply upload a video of you performing an original track to the Red Bull Bedroom Jam website. Then get promoting! The more ‘buzz’ your video and profile generates on the Bedroom Jam website and via social media activity, the higher up the BUZZ chart you/your band will go, with enough ‘buzz’ you could win a webcast from your bedroom, score some studio time or play on a major festival stage!
The artist at the top of the BUZZ chart each fortnight will be sent a professional film crew to film their set from their bedroom. Winning bands will then go on to play either the Red Bull Backyard Jam, or the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Live Gig in a music venue. You could be supporting a leading Aussie band. Bluejuice, British India and The Holidays are all good friends of Red Bull Bedroom Jam and have all played alongside previous winners. There will also be the opportunity to play at a major music festival and even record your tracks in the Red Bull Studio, Sydney!
Any musician from Australia can enter as long as they have original music and the majority of group members are aged 21 and under at the time of their entry to the competition.
First up you’ll need a video of yourself/band/group performing an original track, uploaded to YouTube. It doesn’t matter if you’ve recorded it on your phone or have a professional video. As long people can see and hear you, they can rate and comment on you. It’s the talent that matters, not your video budget!(Note: you must disable any advertising or annotations from any videos you submit)Next go to www.redbullbedroomjam.com.au and click “Register Your Band Now”. Fill in your details, update your band profile, upload your video and start promoting to create buzz!Remember to fill in the details of any social network profiles your band might have as this will improve the accuracy of the BUZZ Chart and make sure we don’ t miss the buzz you’re creating online.Note – before your video goes live we’ll give it a quick check to make sure it doesn’t contain any unsuitable material…be good!
YouTube accepts a wide variety of video formats and footage, including HD. However, videos cannot be longer than 15 minutes or more than 2 GB in size.
Once your page is live, start promoting your video! Our BUZZ Chart measures the amount of buzz your band makes online (it’s rather clever, don’t ask us how it works…), so make sure you share the link to your video with your entire network and ask them to help you promote it. We’ve included the usual share buttons across the site to make this easier for you. The more people watch, comment and rate your video the higher you’re likely to soar up the BUZZ Chart.
If you’ve previously performed in a Red Bull Bedroom Jam show (i.e. the Red Bull team came to your house and filmed you), or if you’ve been chosen for any other Red Bull Bedroom Jam experiences, unfortunately you cannot re-enter.However, because bands grow, change and develop, the slate is wiped clean for 2012, so if you’ve entered before but never won a Bedroom Jam experience you can create a brand new band page for yourselves and take part again in 2012.
Each fortnight the artist at the top of the BUZZ Chart will win a Webcast. We’ll send a professional film crew and will record a performance from your bedroom. If you’re a winner, you’ll need to perform 3 songs for the show, so make sure you’ve got enough material! The first artist will be announced at 5pm AEST on Thursday, 22nd March 2012 and will go to air the following week on Thursday, 29th March 2012 at 7.00pm. So make sure you tune in!
We will call the winning artist to check their availability before announcing them on the site. If the band at the top of the BUZZ Chart is not available, for any reason, we will choose the next band on the BUZZ Chart.
The 5 Webcast winners then form a separate BUZZ chart, whose winner will be awarded the honour of hosting the Bedroom to Backyard Jam. We’ll set up a proper stage and sound in backyard and invite the whole neighbourhood! This will be announced at 5pm AEST, on Thursday, 7th June 2012.
All 5 bands will perform on the stage, alongside a headline Aussie act.
A panel of industry judges will be on hand to pick one winner, who will score 5 days in the Red Bull Studio in Sydney.
Just like Phase 1, Phase 2 will see 5 more bands win a Webcast from their bedrooms, with the first announcement to take place on Thursday, 19th July 2012 and will go to air the following week on 26th July 2012 at 7.00pm (AEST).
The 5 Webcast winners from Phase 2 will take the stage at a live music venue to experience what it would be like live and on tour! They’ll also be playing alongside an Aussie headline act.
Of the 10 Webcast winners, 4 will be selected to play on the Festival Stage by festival organisers. You could be playing on the same stage as some of the biggest acts in the world!
The BUZZ Chart measures all the social media and internet activity in regards to your video and band profile. So get people talking, commenting, liking and tweeting about your music! The BUZZ is measured and will rank the acts in order, according to how much activity is connected to your entry. This includes:
The fans are just as important to Red Bull Bedroom Jam as the acts that are registered.Without fans, artists would play to empty venues! Make sure you watch, rate and comment on your favourite videos. Fans know a good band when they hear them and so you need to score each video and then comment underneath.Keep it polite though eh? If you didn’t like an artist, why not offer them some helpful advice rather than just slag them off!
