Under A Microscope: The Nitty Gritty

Who can enter?
• Entry is open to Aussie residents aged 14 to 19 years old.
• Solo artists can enter too.
• If you are under 18, you need a parents or guardian’s permission to enter (check out the Terms and Conditions for further info).

Who can’t enter?
• Bands that already have commercial music deals or sponsorship are not eligible to enter – sorry, but you gotta leave some band comps for the up and coming!
• If every band member is not between the ages of 14-19 you are not eligible.
• Red Bull employee’s and their immediate family members are also not eligible

How do I enter?
It’s a pretty simple entry process. No coupons, no payment, no barcodes, just a video of your originals sounds.
1. Log on to redbullbedroomjam.com.au
2. Click ‘Sign up now’ on the homepage
3. Hit ‘create a new profile’ then select ‘create a band now’
4. Fill in all the fields and upload your vid

What do I need to enter?
• A band with some musical talent and a name
• One or more original tracks (no covers)
• A video of your band performing your original track(s)
• Permission from a parent or guardian if any of the members of the band are under 18
• An email address and mobile phone number of any band member or band member relative (we need to call you if you’re a winner!)
• It will help your chances if your band has a Facebook page, Twitter account and Myspace page
After you’ve got the basics its up to you to make your band profile as ‘kick ass’ as possible by adding songs, video’s and photo’s to show your fans why you should win.

I’ve completed my profile and uploaded my video. What now?
It’s now your mission to get to the top of the Bedroom Jam buzz chart by getting friends, fans and family to take notice of you and create a ‘buzz’ online. This can be through comments on your bands page on redbullbedroomjam.com.au, comments on Facebook or Myspace page tweets on Twitter. It’s all this ‘Buzz’ that pushes your band up the charts.

When do I need to enter by?
To be in the running for phase two, you’ll need to get your entry in before Thursday 7th July, 2011 BUT, we encourage you to send through your entry as soon as possible in order to generate the most buzz for your band and a better chance of collecting the major prize.

Tell me more about this Buzz Chart.
Well, there are two buzz charts, the Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart and the Backyard Jam Buzz Chart.

Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart
Every band that uploads a video to the site is ranked by the custom designed Buzz Chart, which calculates every band’s popularity depending on video views, ratings and comments on their band page, tweets on Twitter and plays on MySpace.
Changing constantly, the Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart lists the top ten ranking bands in real time. The band at the top of the Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart on winner announcements days wins a webcast live from their bedroom.

Backyard Jam Buzz Chart
After a band has conquered the Bedroom Jam Buzz chart and performed a live webcast, they go on to compete on the Backyard Jam Buzz Chart to host a big name Aussie band on their home turf. The Backyard Jam Buzz Chart works in the same way the Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart, ranking the most popular band.

How does the competition work and how do I win?

Stage 1 – Bedroom Jam Live Webcast
Top the buzz charts and win a live webcast from your bedroom. You are up against all bands that have entered redbullbedroomjam.com.au.
There are four Bedroom Jam live webcasts in each competition phase, one every two weeks. The band at the top of the Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart on announcement day will be confirmed to perform a live webcast. We’ll call the band at 5pm on the selection day to confirm they’re available. If they’re not, they lose their place, and it goes to the band in the second spot.

Stage 2 – Backyard Jam
Play a gig along side a big name Aussie act and the three other webcast winners to be chosen by our judging panel to win the top prize.
Each band that performs a Bedroom Jam live webcast is taken off the Bedroom Jam Buzz Chart and added to the Backyard Jam Buzz Chart. This chart works in exactly the same way as the Buzz Chart measuring the hype, talk and activity around your band. The band at the top of the Backyard Jam Buzz Chart will be confirmed to host a legendary Aussie band in their home town for the Red Bull Backyard Jam. While they rock out at the Red Bull Backyard Jam, our judging panel will decide a one grand prize winner who continues onto stage 3.

Stage 3 – The Studio and Live Gig
Now you’ve been chosen by the judges you are on your way to the studio and then to play the most massive live gig of your live!

Phase 1 Prize
The band who takes out the Red Bull Backyard Jam in phase one is off to the pimping Red Bull recording studios in London for a three day recording session, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Mark Ronson, Emmy the Great and Diplo. . Then conquer the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage in a live performance at the Download Festival in the UK, alongside the likes of Linkin Park, Alice Cooper, System of a Down and Pendulum.

Phase 2 Prize
The band who takes out the Red Bull Backyard Jam in phase two will head to Los Angeles, USA in September for a recording session at Red Bull’s state of the art recording studios. This band will soak up the LA vibe while spending five day recording in the studio. This band will then return to Australia and tour with one of the country’s best bands.
